Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that he had been informed that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken would address the situation and encourage his Indian counterpart to cooperate with an investigation into the June 28 incident. This was hours before S. Jaishankar and Blinken met in Washington, DC, amid tense relations between New Delhi and Ottawa over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
In an interview with reporters, Trudeau said, “The Americans have been with us in talking to the Indian government about how crucial it is that they be involved in following up on the credible allegations that Indian government agents killed a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil.”
All democratic nations and those that uphold the law must take this seriously, the Canadian prime minister said. “We are moving forward in a thoughtful, responsible way anchored in the rule of law with all partners, including in our approach with the government of India,” he added.

Despite “credible allegations” that the Indian government was involved in the execution of the Khalistani terrorist, Trudeau said Canada was still dedicated to forging closer relationships with India, according to Canada’s National Post.
Trudeau cited the rise of India’s global power as evidence why it is “extremely important” for Canada and its allies to maintain their relations with India.
